In the first case you change to that directory you have the files you want to transfer on windows cmd-termina and then start ftp command to connect to the unix server.
After connection first bin followed by an enter and then put the files on unix user-account which you logged into with. In the case of winftp och alike program you can have 2 subwindows after logging into unix from windows the first subwindow should be local disk where you can navigate to the directory and files you want to tranfer and then drag and drop into other subwindow with supposed to be the one you have ftp-logged into the unix mashine.
