Ponyboy is innocent of assisting in the murder of Bob Sheldon. He was unaware that Johnny stabbed and killed him, and later on in the novel when they are hiding out, Johnny comments that Pony is not guilty of anything. Bob Sheldon is the stereotypical Soc Social character in the book. He is rich, drives a cool blue Mustang, and his parents let him do whatever he wants. Bob really loves to push other people around, and wears heavy rings on his hands when he fights greasers so he can do more damage. After some heated talk, Ponyboy spits at the Socs, prompting them to attempt to drown him in a nearby fountain, but Johnny stabs Bob, killing him and dispersing the rest.
Randy Adderson called Randy Anderson in the film is a Soc in The Outsiders, and a minor antagonist turned supporting tritagonist. His girlfriend is Marcia, and his best friend was Robert Sheldon, whom he met in grade school.
